Digital Media Art Challenge

Turku, the European Capital of Culture for 2011, has initiated the world’s largest media art and new media competition. The aim of the competition is to highlight and support the growing field of digital media, and to emphasise the significance of social media in interacting with others and forming a sense of community. By intro- ducing Live2011.com they wish to recognize and promote the importance of established annual media art events, such as Prix Ars Electronica and EMAF, whose work over the years and its significance to the field is most central.
The total sum of all the prizes exceeds 140,000 euro. Any work entered in the competition will be presented to the global audience online through the Capital of Culture’s Live2011.com site, and live at different media art events and in Turku during the Capital of Culture year. Artists and content producers working in the digital format are invited to enter the competition in eight different categories.
Please note: you can only participate with works published 1st of January 2009 or later!
The 8 categories are divided by:
OPEN: Open is a competition category for anyone who is actively involved in creating online media content.
PARTICIPATIVE MEDIA: Participative Media is a competition category that is open to anyone who is actively involved in creating media art content. The main target group is media artists.
DIGITAL TURKU 2011:Digital Turku 2011 is a competition category open to anyone who is actively involved in creating media content.
CULTURE 2.0: Culture 2.0 is a competition category directed for everyone who is actively creating media content for web. The main target group for this category are new media businesses.
ARTISTIC GAME: Live2011.com Artistic Game is a competition category for anyone who is actively involved in creating online media content. The main target group includes private game designers / groups, and small and medium-sized game companies. The Live2011.com Artistic Game prize is intended to support creative game designing and showcase the talents of innovative game designers.
EVENT AWARDS: Event Awards will be awarded during the media art events such as Assembly Summer and Alternative Party to be held during 2009–2011. The competition category is meant for those individuals and groups participating in these specific events and competitions.
NATIONAL STUDENT AWARD: he Live2011.com National Student Award is a category intended only for students in Finland. The primary target group is, in particular, students in the fields of media and technology.
CREATIVE IDEA FOR MOBILE CITY GUIDE: The main target group for this category includes companies, organisations or individuals specialising in mobile content.
